We have a Dyson DC16 with a problem of the battery that keeps on cutting out for the first few mins of use, have to keep on pressing the trigger button all the time and then eventually it works without cutting off. Not that good after only 2 years of having this. Apart from that though overall, it has been very reliable and have been able to vacuum 1 room with it say if can’t be bothered to get the bigger vacuum out.

The handheld that doesn’t loose suction.

@roombafan56001 That has nothing to do with the battery!

Try EMPTYING THE DIRT COMPARTMENT!

actually to be honest, the dyson handhelds r the best but, the battery life is terrible thats all so thats why ppl hate em the preformance is great!

@UTUB5able STOP SPAMMING

@UTUB5able I’m sure that you have posted something about Ebay before. I do not need to, I already have a new battery. Thanks

bu11monkey, I love my Dyson DC16 hand vac. My original battery lasted about 4 years, which is about right. I wish my car’s battery would last as long!

I found a good deal on replacement batteries for Dyson’s on ebay. I’m very happy to have mine back and full steaming again!

@bu11monkey OK LOL I do think its shit. The only time it is useful is when there are bits on the carpet upstairs or by the front door I can use it to pick up them bits without having to get the bigger one out, but it is absolutely useless for car cleaning, it only manages to clean the front and then the battey runs out. It is annoying as it would be good if the machine could manage to get into the nooks and crannies and clean the whole car but the battery cant manage it.

blakaeg, you seem to be the only one in favour of the dyson here. I took mine back after 7 days as kept shutting down and i had to press the button again to start it
also you say that “the suction is good for the small size” i think you are wrong, it is too big and clumsy to be doing the floorwell in the car where it was suppossed to be used.
I have brought an extension lead so I can just drag out my big machine.
Just admit it, this machine is shit

Had this same problem with mine — ran for a few seconds, then shut off. Over and over again! Couldn’t figure out the problem.

I cleaned all the filters, checked everything… I’d had the DC16 for almost 4 years,

Next tried the battery from a friends DC16. That was the answer!

I bought my new battery on ebay.

@gavinsstuff I agree that the battery life is rubbish on this machine. The suction is good for the small size but thats about it. Ive had this for 3 and half years.

the worlds most shit vac. dont buy one. they dont suck and the battery lasts about 3 mins

@bu11monkey Hi, My DC16 did that also when it was new, it takes time for the battery to get charged up and run longer (6 mins) keep using it and it will get better.

i got a dc16 today and it has done the same thing to me twice, in the first day.
i will try it again tomorrow nd then take it back

Its not that hard to open the battery pack yourself, to find out which lithium cells it uses.
this is what ill be doing.

I would be but I’m in UK so it doesn’t apply to me :-(

The DC16 was the one of the biggest consumer ripoffs I have ever been taken on. Dyson should be ashamed for putting out this kind of junk and not standing behind. will never buy another Dyson product. $150 down the drain for something that dies 30 seconds after it is recharged.

Yeah if I called them, they would have said I would have had to buy a new battery so I thought instead, i’d just get a spare battery off a friend of mine as I was not willing to buy a new battery after only 3 years.

What, and spend more hard earned cash on another Dyson. I DON’T THINK SO. Sorry but no way – even so, the DC31 has 10 mins use, it maybe slightly better but I wonder if the batteries on these machine will start to play up like they did on the DC16. Lets wait and see.

I had the same exact problem about 9-10 months after I purchased the vacuum. And when I called, they would not help me out in any sort of way other then to tell me to buy a new battery. Not very happy about that. Not sure I would ever buy Dyson again no matter how much good design goes into their product if they don’t provide decent support.

you should try the dc31 its 10 mins on low power and an improvement in every way. :)

I have the same problem.

The only way I think you can power the thing is to buy a charger. Best try Amazon but I do not think you can cord the machine up directly, it may blow up lol. I agree 6 minutes is poor. I hate when trying to do car, it just runs out and I can’t finish job off. Let me know how u get on.

I just bought one (CLEARANCE) with no charger or plug. Gonna find a way to cord this thing if it kills me. 6 minutes battery life? Nooooo sir.

Yeah its so much for the battery. I just went and got my friend to get me a battery off her a DC16 that she has. It was a spare one. The new battery is a different colour to the main body – looks as though Dyson has changed the colour too.

mine does the samething, just called them and they wanted 75 dollars for a new battery. did you get anyresolution?

it looks like something that will destroy all life on earth more than clean up every time you drop glass on the floor. And for that reason, i am getting one ;D

@mrrogersneighborhood I felt the same way. Didn’t have enough time to finish my car. Solved it by buying a second, spare battery. Now have plenty of time. Bought my spare from eBay — good deal.

My Dyson DC16 is about 1 1/2 years old and the only problem I have ever had with it was the dust cannister was very difficult to pop open at the bottom. I finally solved that problem by spraying a little silicone on the rubber gasket at the bottom which must have been sticking. Also, I take it outside to empty it because dust and dirt tends to become airborne when the cannister is poped open. You get 6 minutes of vacuum time, which is usually enough. It was a little pricey, but it works well.

Hello

Sorry that you are disappointed with the battery. It’s designed for quick clean-ups and most people are happy with the superior performance it provides for these jobs.

We are always keen to hear feedback so that we can work on ways to improve our technology.

DysonTeam

i bought the DC 16 Motorhead, was impressed by the technology but this model is just RIDICULOUS. The battery only lasted less than 6 mins of vacuum and u need to recharge for 3 hrs. You can even finish cleaning yr job. DUN BUY this. I got my refunded. So disappointed with Dyson.

It would be nice if Dyson can release something that slides into the battery compartment of the DC16 with a long cord attached so that you can plug it into the wall and use it for cleaning tasks that last longer than 5 minutes (IE – cleaning out your car)

Suction is goog but ONLY 5 minutes of autonomy !!!

This tehcnical is not mentioned on their website…

looks like a weapon, lol.

anyways, im not sure about these dysons. all the reviews i’ve read are at the extremes, people either love them, or have had bad experiences with their reliability.

Hello

Doens’t sound right – what did the helpline people say??

DysonTeam

Dyson, My handheld is almost 2 years old it has now got a problem with the machine switching off every 3 seconds and then after a couple of times doing this it is ok. The LOW BATTERY flashes everytime this happens. I have washed the filter and emptied everyting. Called the Helpline. Will Dyson give me a new battery?

hi

They are guaranteed for two years and shouldn’t ever need checking by Dyson.

Thanks, Dysonteam

how often do theese need checking over by dyson

I have DC16 and a hoover Handivac and I think my hoover does better

WOW there are so many things to do if you want to make dysons better!

hi blakaeg, we’re constantly looking at ways to improve uor machines. thanks for the feedback.

I have one. Please can Dyson sort out the battery life on this machine, it would also be nice if the machine had an AC adaptor for the car.

I sorted it this morning

thanks anyway

I bought One Yesterday Why Does It Get Clogged So Quic And Not Pick Up Well

It weighs 1.5kgs. Designed to be light in hand – but to be honest it’s a personal thing so best to try it out yourself.
